Exotic Pet Sitting Frequently Asked Questions
What is exotic pet sitting?
Exotic pet sitting involves caring for pets that are less common than dogs and cats, such as reptiles, birds, amphibians, small mammals, or even invertebrates. It includes specialised care tailored to each species’ unique needs, like habitat maintenance, diet management, and safe handling, to keep your pet healthy and comfortable while you’re away.
Can you look after reptiles, birds, or other pets?
We have experience with many species such as rabbits, ferrets, tortoises, birds, reptiles, amphibians, and spiders. Please get in touch so we can organise the right care for you.
How do I prepare my exotic pet for a sitter?
Before you leave, it’s helpful to fill out the exotics care checklist, prepare all necessary supplies, and make sure your pet’s enclosure is safe and secure. A meet-and-greet with the sitter can also help your pet get used to a new caregiver.
My pet can be aggressive - will this be a problem?
No problem. We understand that some exotic pets can be defensive or shy. Please let us know if your pet needs a special approach.
What happens if there is an emergency?
If your pet requires emergency veterinary attention, every effort will be made to take them to your registered veterinary practice. If this is not possible (due to the time of day or distance), we have the right to take your pet to the nearest veterinary clinic.
How far in advance should I book for pet sitting?
As far in advance as possible, especially for busy periods such as school and Christmas holidays.
